- Do I need to code the meter?
No; but upon opening a new box of strips, the new “coding chip” should be inserted in the meter and dispose of the old chip.
- Can I use alcohol to cleanse fingers?
Soap and water are preferred. If alcohol is used, make sure finger tips are completely dry.
- What side of the strip goes into the meter?
The side with the arrow pointing towards the meter.
- Meter did not give a reading or read ERROR, why?
Either strip was inserted improperly, or there was not enough blood on the strip to give an accurate reading, or did not wait for the blood icon to appear on screen before placing the drop of blood.
- What is the proper glucose level?
ADA guidelines are between 90mg and 130mg before a meal,and less than 180mg after a meal; although each patient is recommended to consult its own physician.
- Can I reuse the same strip?
No, strips can only be used one time
- Should I keep the strips in the refrigerator?
No. Strips should always be kept at room temperature between 38 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
- The meter reads different from my other meter.
There are many reasons meters read differently; however, the acceptable margin of error should be within 20 points higher or lower on any given day. Also the ADA allows a margin of error of 12% either way.
- How do I use the Memory Button?
You should consult the user’s guide for this purpose
